A tribute to the silent film era wrapped in a science fiction premise, INbox is a non-verbal comedy that explores serious themes about humanity’s legacy in the wake of climate inaction.
The idea for INbox comes from earthblackbox.com, a real-life PR stunt (or possibly honest endeavor) to create an indestructible, giant “black box” (like on airplanes). The website claims that “hundreds of data sets, measurements, and interactions relating to the health of our planet will be continuously collected and safely archived to provide an unbiased account of the events that lead to the demise of the planet.”
INbox imagines a surreal life inside “Black Box Earth: A Joint Nations Climate Crisis Initiative.” Two entry-level data pushers from opposing nations are responsible for the safe archiving of all of humanity’s data. A crisis ensues when dwindling resources and incompetent leadership leave them with no rescue plan and only one box left to fill with the entirety of the human story. What information should be saved for posterity, what is a fact worth saving, and who gets to choose?
