The Catamounts are thrilled to announce the world-premiere of One Way-Back Day, developed under the creative directorship of Tresha Farris for over a year.
Meet Lettice, a 101 year-old Black matriarch who is just looking for some cheese and light bread. Did you bring some?
Well, if you’re going to stay a while, come sit next to her rocking chair as she recounts her family’s struggle with the mythical entity called Boo Hag and weaves fantastical tales conjured from her century of living.
With Lettice as your guide, you’ll encounter sea dragons, a talking red fish, anthropomorphic eggs, and a perfect daughter (who just happens to be a yam). You’ll revisit the past, jump forward generations, explore historic waters, and ultimately reconcile a fraught familial relationship. And so much more.
ONE WAY-BACK DAY brings African, Black, Gullah, and GeeChee American fairy tales and folklore a to kinetic, dynamic, explosive life. After supporting the development of this breathtakingly original piece, The Catamounts are proud to present its world-premiere here at the Dairy.
Creative directed and written by Tresha Farris with James Brunt, James Farris, Ilaesia Gray, Peter Trinh, Chelsea Frye and Sam Gilstrap.
